SINDH TOURISM DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION (STDC)
The STDC was established in 1990-91, with the mandate to promote tourism
in the province of Sindh.It is a Public limited company.
It was formed initially with an ambitious plan but suffered immediate set backs
which adversely affected the working of the STDC. The Government has also
not been able to provide adequate funds to the Corporation to function as a
commercial body. In order to make the Corporation fully functional and
attractive to the tourists within country and abroad a one time loan/grant-in-
aid of Rs.20.00 million is recommended so that it is able to tide over its present
financial crisis and run its institutions and centres in a purposeful manner.
The following resorts / Rest Houses are functioning at various places in the
Province:-
Keenjher Lake resorts at keenjhar District Thatta,
Haleji Lake resort at Haleji District Thatta
Laki Shah Saddar Rest House at laki Shah Saddar District Dadu.
Lal Shahbaz Motel at Sehwan District: Dadu.
Kai Resorts, Taluka Sehwan District Dadu.
Sambara-inn-Hotel at Larkana
Mithi rest House.
ACTIVITIES OF STDC
RE-ORGANIZATION OF KEENJHAR LAKE RESORT:
The Keenjhar lake Resort is being re-organized and various existing facilities
are being upgraded by introducing new facilities from STDC’s own resources
A project for up gradation and development of keenjhar is under way,The
project of Rs. 10.00 million is being carried out by District Officer (C&W)
DepartmentThatta.
TOURIST RECREATIONAL PACKAGES:
In order to attract and provide services to domestic and foreign tourists,first
time in the history of Sindh Tourism development Corporation plans to publish
several brochures and guides for Sindh.
LIAISION WITH PRIVATE SECTOR:
Proper liaision between the Corporation and private Sector engaged in tourism
industry is being established.
PARTICIPATION IN INTER-PROVINCIAL ACTIVITIES:
The Sindh Tourism development Corporation participates in basant Mela
Lahore, each year by establishing still which attract huge crowed and
wins applause and appreciation of visitors from all walks of life.
DIRECTORATE OF SPORTS AND YOUTH AFFAIRS
The Department of Culture & Sports has an impressive record in the field of
sports in the Province in general and educational institutions in particular.
Most of these activities have been initiated under the Sindh Sports Board
which embarked upon a policy for providing physical infrastructure, training camps and grass root sports activities.A network of infrastructure has
been laid and we have established Gymnasium,hostels and sports grounds.
A hostel for sportsmen has been constructed at Sukkur and one at Hyderabad. Badminton Hall has been renovated and made functional at the
Khuhro Complex Larkana with Squash and basket Ball Courts. Malakhro Stadium at Bhitshah, Squash Court at Sports Complex Karachi, a Mini Stadium, a Gymnasiumand a Swimming pool has been established at Hyderabad and Gymnasium Hall at Jacobabad. Major sports activities/events conducted by the Department are the Governor’s Gold Cup in Shooting ball, Football, Hockey, Kodi Kodi and Malakhro. In order to raise the standard of our athletes and to involve the youth in healthy activities, the Department has initiated Sindh School Games.
These games are being organized for the last 10 years at different places in Sindh and have generated a lot of interest in the youth. Approximately 1500 to 2000 youth have been participating in these events.
The Inter University games were initiated in 1994 and are now a regular
feature. Permanent coaching programmes for under-14 and under-16 for
boys and girls have been organized.
Training Programmes have also been organized for coaches from Sindh at
Karachi. In order to provide patronage and recognition to indigenous
games,the Department of Culture & Sports ensured that these popular games become an integral part of the Sindh Games & for the first time indigenous games like Malakhro,Kodi Kodi, Vanjwati and Bilharo were given the status of provincial games.
